How it works

The indicator analyzes consecutive candlesticks to detect specific reversal patterns by comparing their open, close, high, and low prices. For a Bullish Engulfing pattern, the current candle must close higher than the previous candle's open, with its own open lower than the previous candle's close.

Similarly, for Bearish Engulfing patterns, the current candle's close must be lower than the previous candle's open, with its open higher than the previous candle's close. The Harami patterns follow a similar logic, requiring the current candle to be contained within the body of the previous candle while showing opposite price movement.

Why it may be useful

Candlestick reversal patterns provide traders with critical insights into potential market sentiment shifts and trend reversals. By identifying these patterns, traders can anticipate potential changes in price direction before they fully manifest, allowing for more strategic entry and exit points.

These patterns are particularly valuable because they represent moments of potential trend exhaustion and market psychology transformation. They help traders recognize when bulls or bears might be losing momentum, enabling more informed trading decisions and potentially improving overall trading strategy effectiveness.

When to explore it

These reversal patterns are most effective in markets with clear trending behavior and sufficient price volatility. They work best when applied to timeframes that allow for clear pattern recognition, such as daily or hourly charts where candlestick formations are more distinct and meaningful.

Traders should use these patterns in conjunction with other technical indicators and analysis methods to confirm signals and reduce false positives. They are particularly useful in markets like stocks, forex, and cryptocurrency, where price action and trader psychology play significant roles in market movements.
