How it works

The indicator constructs defining ranges (DR) and implied defining ranges (IDR) based on two user-defined trading sessions: a regular session and an overnight session. It calculates the maximum and minimum price levels within these predefined time windows and displays them as graphical candles on the chart with color-coded visual representations.

The color coding provides immediate visual feedback about price positioning relative to the defined ranges. Blue indicates price is above the range, orange shows price is below the range, and gray represents price within the range. Additional graphical elements like solid and dashed lines highlight session times and price movements.

Why it may be useful

This indicator provides traders with a structured visual approach to understanding intraday price dynamics and potential support/resistance levels. By highlighting price movements within specific sessions, it offers insights into market behavior and potential trading opportunities that might not be immediately apparent on a standard price chart.

The color-coded visualization helps traders quickly assess price positioning and potential trend strength. The background shading that indicates price frequency within ranges can help traders identify potentially significant support and resistance levels more intuitively.

When to explore it

The indicator is most effective for day traders and scalpers who focus on short-term price movements and specific market sessions. It works best in markets with clear intraday patterns and when trading instruments that have consistent volume and liquidity during specified trading hours.

Traders should use this tool in conjunction with other technical analysis methods, particularly when seeking to understand potential session highs and lows. It is particularly useful for traders who want a visual representation of price behavior within defined time windows and those interested in identifying potential support and resistance levels.
