How it works

The Engulf Scan analyzes consecutive candlesticks to detect specific pattern formations where one candle completely engulfs the previous candle's body. For a bullish engulfing pattern, a larger green candle follows and completely covers a smaller red candle, signaling potential upward momentum. For a bearish engulfing pattern, a larger red candle follows and completely covers a smaller green candle, indicating potential downward momentum.

The indicator uses color-coded backgrounds to highlight these patterns, making it easy for traders to quickly identify potential trend reversal points. By comparing the current candle's body with the previous candle's body, the scan automatically detects and marks these significant candlestick formations across different timeframes.

Why it may be useful

Engulfing patterns are crucial for traders because they provide visual insights into potential market sentiment shifts and trend reversals. These patterns can help traders identify moments when buying or selling pressure is about to change, offering early signals of potential price movement directions. By recognizing these patterns, traders can make more informed decisions about entry and exit points.

The indicator's ability to quickly highlight these patterns across multiple timeframes makes it a valuable tool for both technical analysis and strategic trading. It helps traders understand market psychology by showing when one group of market participants (buyers or sellers) is overpowering the other, potentially indicating a shift in market momentum.

When to explore it

The Engulf Scan is most effective when used on daily and higher timeframes, where candlestick patterns tend to be more reliable and meaningful. Traders should ideally combine this indicator with other technical analysis tools to confirm signals and reduce false positives. It works particularly well in markets with clear trending characteristics, such as stocks, forex, and cryptocurrency trading.

While the indicator can be applied across various markets, it's important to remember that no single indicator provides guaranteed trading results. Traders should use the Engulf Scan as part of a comprehensive trading strategy, incorporating risk management techniques and additional confirmation from other technical indicators or fundamental analysis.
