How it works

The indicator groups price data into fixed-length intervals, calculating a Simple Moving Average (SMA) for each group. As each group is completed, it computes the average closing price by summing and dividing the prices within that specific interval. Once the group reaches the predefined length, the calculation resets, preparing for the next group.

After calculating the group's average, the indicator computes the standard deviation of closing prices within that group. By multiplying this standard deviation with a user-defined multiplier, it creates upper and lower Bollinger Bands around the SMA. These bands dynamically represent price volatility for each specific group of bars.

Why it may be useful

This grouped approach provides traders with a more segmented view of price movements and volatility compared to traditional continuous indicators. By breaking down price data into fixed intervals, it offers clearer insights into market behavior within specific timeframes. The customizable length and standard deviation multiplier allow traders to adapt the indicator to different market conditions and trading strategies.

The visual representation of SMA and Bollinger Bands for each group helps traders identify potential trend changes, assess market volatility, and make more informed trading decisions. This method can reveal patterns and market dynamics that might be less apparent in standard rolling average calculations.

When to explore it

This indicator is most effective in markets with distinct price movement characteristics and when traders want to analyze price behavior in fixed, predetermined intervals. It works well in moderately volatile markets where price trends can be clearly defined within specific timeframes. Traders can adjust the group length and standard deviation multiplier to match different asset classes and market conditions.

The grouped SMA with Bollinger Bands is particularly useful for identifying short-term trend shifts, assessing market volatility, and developing targeted trading strategies. It can be applied across various financial instruments, including stocks, forex, cryptocurrencies, and commodities, making it a versatile tool for different trading styles and timeframes.
