How it works

The indicator uses Pine Script's ta.pivothigh() and ta.pivotlow() functions to identify significant swing highs and lows in price action. By setting a pivot strength parameter, traders can determine the significance of these pivot points, with higher values requiring more bars to confirm a swing high or low.

The system tracks the most recent swing highs and lows, monitoring when price breaks through these levels. When the price closes above a previous swing high during a bearish trend, it signals a Market Structure Shift (MSS), indicating a potential trend reversal. Conversely, closing above swing highs in an already bullish trend indicates a Break of Structure (BOS), suggesting trend continuation.

Why it may be useful

Market structure analysis helps traders understand the underlying dynamics of price movement by providing clear visual and mathematical representations of trend changes. By identifying key pivot points, traders can make more informed decisions about potential trend reversals or continuations, reducing emotional trading and improving strategic entry and exit points.

The indicator offers a systematic approach to recognizing market transitions, which is crucial for managing risk and identifying high-probability trading opportunities. It removes subjective interpretation by using objective mathematical criteria to define market structure, helping traders maintain a disciplined and consistent approach to trading.

When to explore it

This market structure indicator is most effective in trending markets with clear directional movement, where swing highs and lows can be easily identified and analyzed. It works particularly well in timeframes that allow for more pronounced swing movements, such as daily, 4-hour, and weekly charts, where shorter-term noise is filtered out.

Traders should combine this indicator with other technical analysis tools like volume indicators, support and resistance levels, and trend confirmation signals to increase the reliability of trade decisions. It is especially useful during market transitions, helping traders spot potential trend reversals early and manage their positions more effectively.
