UNDERSTAND THE TOOL

How it works

The indicator tracks market structure by identifying swing points and trend changes using pivot lengths and analysis of bullish or bearish trends. When a new market structure is detected, the trailing stop is initially set based on the previous trend's maximum or minimum price points.

As the price moves, the trailing stop is incrementally adjusted using a configurable percentage factor. In an uptrend, the stop increases when the trailing maximum increases, while in a downtrend, the stop decreases when the trailing minimum decreases, allowing for dynamic risk management.

Why it may be useful

Trailing stops provide traders with a systematic method to protect capital and lock in profits during market movements. By dynamically adjusting stop-loss levels based on market structure, traders can minimize potential losses while allowing profitable trades to run.

This approach helps traders maintain discipline by removing emotional decision-making from exit strategies. The flexibility of controlling convergence speed and reset conditions allows traders to customize the strategy to their specific risk tolerance and trading style.

When to explore it

This trailing stop strategy is most effective in trending markets with clear directional movements and identifiable market structure changes. It works best for traders who prioritize adaptive risk management and want to capture significant price moves while protecting gains.

The indicator is particularly useful for traders using market structure as a primary entry condition, providing an additional layer of exit strategy and support/resistance identification. It can be applied across various timeframes and trading styles, making it versatile for scalpers, day traders, and swing traders.
