How it works

The custom USD Index calculates dollar strength by aggregating weighted values across multiple financial assets, including traditional fiat currencies and modern digital/commodity alternatives. It uses a methodology similar to the official ICE DXY, but expands the basket to include Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, and the Chinese yuan.

The index is normalized to start at 100 on the first day all asset inputs are available, allowing for a consistent tracking mechanism. Core fiat currencies retain their original ICE DXY weights, while additional components are proportionally weighted based on their estimated global economic influence.

Why it may be useful

This expanded USD index provides traders and investors with a more nuanced understanding of dollar performance beyond traditional currency markets. By incorporating emerging assets like cryptocurrencies and considering geopolitical economic shifts, it offers a more comprehensive view of global monetary dynamics.

The index helps traders assess dollar strength in a more holistic context, accounting for both traditional and emerging financial instruments. This approach allows for more informed decision-making across various asset classes and investment strategies.

When to explore it

The custom USD Index is most valuable during periods of significant global economic shifts, currency market volatility, or when analyzing broad macroeconomic trends. It can be particularly useful for traders looking to understand dollar performance across multiple asset classes simultaneously.

Investors and traders can leverage this index when making decisions about forex, cryptocurrency, commodity, or international equity investments. It provides a more comprehensive view of dollar strength that goes beyond traditional currency pair analysis.
