How it works

The AFR indicator calculates custom low and high points using the open price and Average True Range (ATR) multiplied by an ATR Factor. It dynamically adjusts its value on each price tick, tracking potential trend changes by comparing these custom points with the previous AFR value.

When the custom low point exceeds the previous AFR value, it suggests an uptrend and adjusts accordingly. Conversely, when the custom high point is lower than the AFR, it indicates a potential downtrend and modifies the indicator's value to reflect this market movement.

Why it may be useful

The AFR indicator provides traders with a flexible tool for identifying market trends and potential entry and exit points across different timeframes. By using ATR and a custom factor, it adapts to market volatility and helps traders recognize short-term and medium-term trend shifts more effectively.

Its color-coded visual representation makes it easy to quickly interpret market direction, with green indicating a bullish trend and red signaling a bearish trend. The signal triangles further enhance trading decisions by marking precise moments of trend reversals.

When to explore it

AFR is most effective when used in conjunction with other confirmation indicators to validate trading signals and reduce false positives. It works well for traders seeking to identify trend changes in various market conditions and timeframes, from scalping to swing trading.

Traders should adjust the ATR Factor to suit their specific trading style and market characteristics. Lower factor settings are recommended for scalpers, while higher settings might be more suitable for swing traders looking to capture broader market movements.
