A custom TradingView indicator that highlights candlesticks when they deviate significantly from the 5-period EMA, signaling potential price overextension or reversal opportunities.
Explore complementary indicator rolesHow it works
The indicator calculates a 5-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA) based on closing prices of the last five candles. It identifies when a candle is 'disconnected' from the EMA by checking if both the high and low of the current candle are entirely above or below the EMA line.
When this disconnection occurs, the candle's color changes to yellow, visually highlighting the significant price deviation. By default, the EMA line itself is not displayed, keeping the chart clean and focused on the colored candlesticks that indicate potential price anomalies.
Why it may be useful
This indicator helps traders quickly identify moments when price has moved significantly away from its recent average, which could signal potential trading opportunities. By changing the candle color, it provides an immediate visual cue about price behavior without cluttering the chart with additional lines or indicators.
The yellow highlight serves as a rapid risk management tool, alerting traders to possible overextension or potential reversal points. It allows traders to quickly assess whether the current price movement is consistent with recent trend or represents an unusual market condition that might require closer attention.
When to explore it
This signal is most effective for short-term trading strategies, particularly scalping and day trading, where quick identification of price deviations can be crucial. Traders can use the yellow candles as potential entry or exit signals, indicating moments when price has moved unusually far from its recent average.
The indicator works best in markets with moderate to high volatility, where price movements can quickly deviate from recent trends. Traders should combine this signal with other technical analysis tools to confirm potential trade setups and manage risk effectively.
