How it works

The Currency Strength indicator calculates relative strength by comparing exchange rates between different currency pairs over a selected timeframe. It computes individual relative strength by measuring the percentage difference between opening and closing prices for each currency pair.

The indicator then aggregates these individual relative strengths to create a composite relative strength score for each currency. This process involves normalizing the close-to-open differences to ensure comparability across different currencies, allowing traders to see the comparative performance of currencies within a single view.

Why it may be useful

The Currency Strength indicator provides traders with a comprehensive overview of currency performance, enabling them to make more informed trading decisions. By visualizing the relative strength of currencies through both a meter and scatter plot, traders can quickly identify which currencies are strong, weak, improving, or weakening.

This holistic approach helps traders understand not just current currency performance, but also the trajectory of each currency's strength. The indicator's ability to show both absolute and relative strength gives traders a nuanced view of currency markets, helping them spot potential trading opportunities and manage risk more effectively.

When to explore it

The Currency Strength indicator is most effective during periods of high market volatility and when trading forex or currency-related instruments. It is particularly useful for traders who want to compare multiple currencies simultaneously and identify potential trend shifts or emerging opportunities.

Traders should use this indicator in conjunction with other technical and fundamental analysis tools to confirm signals and validate trading decisions. It works best on timeframes ranging from intraday to short-term swing trading, providing insights into currency dynamics that might not be immediately apparent from individual currency pair charts.
