How it works

The indicator analyzes price structure by tracking Break of Structure (BoS) and Change of Character (ChoCh) lines on price charts. It operates by identifying when price breaks previous structural lines and determining whether this represents a genuine trend change or a temporary pullback. When a BoS line is broken, the indicator looks for the lowest or highest pullback between two BoS lines to mark the ChoCh line.

The unique aspect of this indicator is its strict rule set, derived from the FTR Trading group methodology. Unlike other similar indicators, it requires an actual candle body break to change a ChoCh line to a BoS line, rather than allowing wick breaks to trigger such changes. If a wick breaks the ChoCh line, the line is simply extended to the new high or low.

Why it may be useful

This indicator helps traders distinguish between genuine trend reversals and temporary market pullbacks, which is crucial for making informed trading decisions. By providing a systematic approach to identifying structural changes in price movement, it reduces the risk of false signals and helps traders maintain discipline in their trading strategy.

The precise rules governing BoS and ChoCh line changes provide traders with a more refined method of trend analysis compared to traditional indicators. This approach allows for more nuanced interpretation of market dynamics, helping traders better understand the underlying momentum and potential future price direction.

When to explore it

The indicator is most effective in markets with clear trending characteristics, where price movements demonstrate consistent directional movement. It works well across multiple timeframes, making it versatile for different trading styles and strategies, from scalping to swing trading. Traders should use this indicator in conjunction with other technical analysis tools to confirm signals and reduce false positives.

The indicator is particularly useful during periods of market transition, such as when price is approaching key support or resistance levels, or when there are signs of potential trend exhaustion. By providing a structured method for recognizing structural changes, it can help traders anticipate and prepare for potential trend reversals or continuations.
