How it works

The indicator identifies market trends by comparing the closing price of the previous bar to the high and low prices from two bars ago. When the closing price is higher than the previous high, an uptrend is detected; conversely, when the closing price is lower than the previous low, a downtrend is signaled.

A counter tracks the number of consecutive bars in the current trend, resetting to 1 when a trend change occurs. The BarCount is plotted as a histogram, with positive values representing uptrends and negative values indicating downtrends, providing a visual representation of trend strength and duration.

Why it may be useful

This trend analysis tool helps traders understand market momentum by quantifying the duration and strength of price movements. By tracking consecutive trend bars, traders can gain insights into the current market sentiment and potential trend continuation or reversal.

The color-coded visualization makes it easy to quickly interpret market dynamics, allowing traders to make more informed decisions about entry and exit points. The flexible configuration enables adaptation to different trading styles and timeframes, making it a versatile tool for various market analysis approaches.

When to explore it

The indicator is most effective in markets with clear trending characteristics, such as forex, stocks, and commodities during periods of sustained directional movement. It works best when used in conjunction with other technical analysis tools to confirm trend signals and provide additional context.

Traders can utilize this indicator across multiple timeframes, from short-term scalping to longer-term swing trading. It is particularly useful during stable market conditions where trends are more defined, helping traders identify potential entry points, assess trend strength, and manage risk more effectively.
