How it works

The Range Breakout Signals indicator uses r-squared calculation to determine if intrabar prices are trending or ranging within a single candle. When the r-squared value exceeds 0.5, the candle is considered trending, with uptrending candles highlighted in green and downtrending in red.

For ranging candles, the indicator hides the candle body and displays upper and lower extremities based on the high and low prices. Traders can select between 'Trend Following' and 'Reversal' modes, which define different signal generation criteria based on price breaking these extremities.

Why it may be useful

This indicator provides traders with a unique method to identify potential trend and reversal opportunities within individual candles. By dynamically assessing intrabar price movements, it offers insights into market momentum that traditional static indicators might miss.

The adaptive nature of the indicator, which automatically determines trending or ranging states, allows traders to gain more nuanced market insights without extensive manual configuration. Its ability to work across different timeframes makes it a versatile tool for understanding short-term price dynamics.

When to explore it

The Range Breakout Signals indicator is most effective in markets with clear short-term momentum and during periods of potential trend transitions. It works particularly well in intraday charts where price movements can be more volatile and directionally uncertain.

Traders should consider using this indicator during trading sessions with higher liquidity and more pronounced price movements, such as during market opens or around significant economic news releases. It's especially useful for traders seeking early signals of potential trend changes or continuation.
