How it works

The Smooth RSI MarktQuant calculates Relative Strength Index values across four price points: high, open, low, and close, then averages them to create a more normalized momentum signal. By averaging these different price points, the indicator reduces volatility and provides a smoother representation of market momentum.

Simultaneously, the indicator incorporates a Rate of Change (RoC) calculation to validate and confirm the RSI trend signals. The RoC measures the percentage change in price over a specified period, helping to determine the strength and direction of price movement. When combined, the averaged RSI and RoC create a more robust trading signal.

Why it may be useful

Traditional momentum indicators can be noisy and generate false signals, making trading decisions challenging. By combining RSI calculations from multiple price points and integrating Rate of Change, this indicator offers traders a more comprehensive view of market momentum and reduces the likelihood of misleading signals.

The multi-dimensional approach allows traders to gain deeper insights into price movement, helping them make more informed trading decisions. The visual color-coding and horizontal reference lines further enhance signal interpretation, making it easier for traders to quickly assess market conditions and potential entry or exit points.

When to explore it

This indicator is most effective in markets with clear trending characteristics, where momentum plays a significant role in price movement. It performs well across various timeframes, from short-term scalping to longer-term swing trading, making it versatile for different trading styles and strategies.

Traders should use this indicator in conjunction with other technical analysis tools to confirm signals and validate trading decisions. It is particularly useful in markets with moderate volatility, where momentum shifts can provide reliable trading opportunities. Adjusting the length parameters based on specific trading timeframes can optimize the indicator's performance.
