How it works

The strategy focuses on analyzing candlestick wicks and volume to detect potential trading signals. By examining the size and proportion of upper and lower wicks relative to the candle body, traders can identify moments where price has tested significant support or resistance levels.

When a candle's upper wick exceeds 90% of its body and is longer than the lower wick, a Buy Stop order is placed at the wick's upper extremity. Conversely, when the lower wick dominates, a Sell Stop order is positioned at the wick's lower point. Stop-loss orders are strategically placed to manage risk, typically just outside the candle's extreme points.

Why it may be useful

This strategy provides traders with a structured approach to capturing significant price movements by focusing on key market turning points. By analyzing wick sizes and volume, traders can gain insights into market sentiment and potential trend reversals before they fully develop.

The method offers clear visual indicators and precise entry and exit points, allowing traders to make more informed decisions. Its emphasis on volume confirmation and strategic order placement helps improve the probability of successful trades while maintaining disciplined risk management.

When to explore it

The strategy is most effective in markets with clear support and resistance levels and moderate to high volatility. It works best in liquid markets where volume can provide meaningful confirmation of price movements, such as major forex pairs, stock indices, and large-cap stocks.

Traders should apply this strategy during periods of established market trends and avoid using it during extremely choppy or low-volume market conditions. It is particularly useful in identifying potential breakout or reversal scenarios where price has tested significant levels but not yet committed to a clear directional move.
