How it works

The Wick Ratio Indicator calculates the length of upper and lower wicks by comparing the high and low prices to the candle's open and close values. For the upper wick, it measures the distance from the highest price to the top of the candle body, while the lower wick measures the distance from the bottom of the candle body to the lowest price.

When the upper wick is longer, a green triangle is plotted above the candle, signaling a potential bearish rejection. Conversely, when the lower wick is longer, a red triangle is plotted below the candle, indicating a potential bullish rejection. The indicator provides a visual representation of price action dynamics.

Why it may be useful

The Wick Ratio Indicator helps traders understand market sentiment and potential trend reversals by highlighting price rejection signals. By revealing moments where prices are pushed back from extreme levels, traders can gain insights into the balance of power between buyers and sellers.

This tool is particularly valuable for identifying potential turning points in the market, where strong price movements are quickly reversed, suggesting indecision or a potential shift in market momentum. The visual representation makes it easy for traders to quickly recognize these critical price action moments.

When to explore it

The Wick Ratio Indicator is most effective in markets with clear price action and during periods of heightened volatility. Traders can use it to identify potential reversal points in trending or ranging markets, particularly when significant price rejections occur near key support and resistance levels.

It works best when combined with other technical analysis tools and confirmatory signals. Traders should look for wick signals that align with broader market trends, volume confirmations, and other technical indicators to increase the probability of successful trades.
