How it works

The X4MA indicator operates by first calculating two intermediate averages: the High-Low Average (HLAvg) and the Open-Close Average (OCAvg). HLAvg captures the market's price range by averaging the high and low prices, while OCAvg reflects the directional momentum by averaging the opening and closing prices.

These averages are then combined into a Combined Average (CMA) that represents a balanced view of price behavior. The CMA is subsequently smoothed using an Exponential Moving Average (EMA) to create the X4MA, which enhances responsiveness to recent price changes while filtering out market noise.

Why it may be useful

Traditional moving averages often rely solely on closing prices, which can provide an incomplete picture of market dynamics. The X4MA addresses this limitation by incorporating multiple price dimensions, offering traders a more nuanced and comprehensive analysis of market movements and trends.
