How it works

The Balance of Force indicator begins by calculating bearish and bullish true ranges through the absolute difference between open and close prices over a specified period. It then computes the ratio of bullish to bearish true ranges and takes the natural logarithm to create a 'bullish-bearish ratio'.

Subsequently, the indicator calculates the standard deviation of this ratio to measure market volatility. An exponential moving average is applied to smooth the ratio, and the script plots multiple components including the smoothed ratio, raw ratio, and deviation levels multiplied by 1, 2, and 3.
