How it works

The median true range (MTR) works by first calculating the true range for each of the previous candle periods in a specified timeframe. The true range represents the maximum of three price differences: current high to low, current high to previous close, and current low to previous close.

After computing these true range values, the indicator then determines the median value, which represents the middle point of all calculated true ranges. This median value provides a normalized measure of price volatility that is less susceptible to extreme outliers compared to simple average calculations.
