How it works

The pivot high low function identifies key price turning points by comparing current price levels with previous price levels. When a new pivot low is detected that is lower than the previous pivot low, a support zone is created with the upper line defined by the previous pivot low and the lower line defined by the new pivot low.

Similarly, for resistance zones, when a new pivot high is plotted that is higher than the previous pivot high, the upper line of the zone becomes the new pivot high, while the lower line is marked by the previous pivot high. This dynamic method allows traders to visualize potential price reversal areas as the market evolves.

Why it may be useful

Support and resistance zones are critical for traders as they represent key psychological price levels where buying and selling pressures converge. By dynamically plotting these zones based on pivot points, traders can gain insights into potential trend reversals and market sentiment.

These zones help traders make more informed decisions about entry and exit points, stop-loss placement, and potential price breakout scenarios. The adaptive nature of these zones ensures that traders are always working with the most recent and relevant price action information.

When to explore it

Pivot high low support and resistance zones are most effective in markets with clear trending or ranging characteristics. They work particularly well in timeframes ranging from short-term intraday charts to longer-term swing trading scenarios.

Traders should use these zones in conjunction with other technical indicators to confirm potential trading signals. They are especially useful during periods of market volatility, where identifying key price levels can help manage risk and capitalize on potential price movements.
