How it works

The Range Progress Tracker calculates the current trading session's price range by subtracting the low from the high. It then compares this range to the Average True Range (ATR), which represents the typical price movement over a specified period, usually 14 sessions.

By expressing the current range as a percentage of the ATR, traders can quickly understand how much of the expected price movement has already occurred. When the current range approaches or exceeds 100% of the ATR, it signals that the price has moved substantially within the current trading session.

Why it may be useful

The Range Progress Tracker provides traders with a statistical perspective on market movement, helping them assess the likelihood of continued trend momentum or potential reversal. By understanding how much of the typical price range has been covered, traders can make more informed decisions about potential market exhaustion.

This indicator is particularly valuable because it offers insights into market dynamics beyond simple price action, allowing traders to gauge the probability of further price movement and potential consolidation or trend changes.

When to explore it

The Range Progress Tracker is most effective in volatile markets where understanding price movement range is crucial for making trading decisions. It works best when used in conjunction with other technical indicators to confirm potential trend exhaustion or reversal signals.

Traders should pay special attention to this indicator when the current range percentage approaches or exceeds 100% of the ATR, particularly when the price is near the session's high or low. It can be especially useful in identifying potential consolidation phases or trend reversals across different timeframes.
