How it works

The indicator calculates volume outliers by first determining the first quartile (Q1) and third quartile (Q3) of a trading volume dataset. It then computes the Interquartile Range (IQR) by subtracting Q1 from Q3, which represents the spread of the middle 50% of volume data.

Using a multiplier of 1.5, the indicator establishes upper and lower volume boundaries. Any volume exceeding these boundaries is considered an outlier. When the current bar's volume surpasses the upper boundary, the indicator displays a color-coded column that provides additional context based on the price action of the current and previous bars.

Why it may be useful

Volume outlier analysis helps traders identify unusual trading activity that might signal significant market movements or potential trend reversals. By highlighting volume spikes and correlating them with price action, traders can gain insights into market sentiment and potential momentum shifts.

The indicator's ability to visually represent volume anomalies allows traders to quickly assess market dynamics without complex calculations. Its customizable settings, such as moving average filters and IQR multipliers, provide flexibility in adapting the tool to different market conditions and trading styles.

When to explore it

This indicator is most effective in markets with consistent volume data and during periods of active trading. It works best for traders seeking to identify potential breakouts, trend confirmations, or reversals based on unusual volume activity.

Traders should use this tool in conjunction with other technical analysis methods and consider the specific characteristics of the traded asset. It is particularly useful for short-term trading strategies like scalping and day trading, where rapid volume changes can indicate immediate market opportunities.
