How to set TradingView indicator alerts
Choose the right alert condition and timing, then troubleshoot missing alerts and differences between notifications and chart signals.
Adding an indicator does not automatically create an alert. You must create one from the chart and select the condition exposed by that script.
Set up the alert
- Add the indicator and configure its inputs.
- Check the symbol and timeframe.
- Open Create Alert and choose the script under Condition.
- Select the intended trigger and available frequency.
- Choose your notification method and create the alert.
Depending on the code, the menu may list named conditions or Any alert() function call. A strategy can also expose order-fill events. The available choices depend on the script. See TradingView's alert FAQ.
Why does an alert differ from the chart?
A condition may become true during a candle and disappear before it closes. Where supported, a bar-close trigger can help align notifications with confirmed values. It does not eliminate every source of changing historical signals.
TradingView saves a server-side copy of the script, inputs, symbol and timeframe when an alert is created. Later chart changes do not update that copy. Recreate the alert when those settings need to change. See the official alert documentation.
Why did no alert arrive?
- Confirm the alert is active and the chosen condition actually occurred live.
- Check that you selected the intended script and condition.
- Compare the saved alert settings with your current chart.
- Check notification settings and any expiration or limits shown in your account.
Old historical markers do not trigger a newly created alert. Test a notification before connecting it to any automated workflow.
