Do TradingView indicators repaint?
Understand changing live-bar values, delayed signals and misleading historical plots, then check the behavior that matters to your setup.
Yes, many do in some form. Repainting means live and historical calculations or plots can differ. A changing value on an unfinished candle is not automatically deception. TradingView documents several distinct causes.
Check the behavior, not just the label
- Open candles: values can change until the candle closes.
- Higher timeframes: an unfinished higher-timeframe value can change even after a smaller candle closes.
- Delayed markers: a pivot can be confirmed later and drawn on an earlier candle.
- Future leakage: historical signals may use information unavailable at that moment.
In Pine Script, close[0] is the current bar's close value; it is not a reference to a future candle.
A practical check
Record signals live, note when each becomes available, and compare the chart after reloading. Ask the creator whether alerts wait for confirmation and whether markers are placed into the past. Bar replay alone does not prove live behavior.
A bar-close alert can reduce intrabar changes, but cannot fix every source of repainting.
Read the alert setup guide before using a script's signals.
