Testing indicators against prop-firm rules
A practical way to assess a research setup against written account rules, without relying on account-size or payout promises.
A promising indicator does not tell you whether a strategy fits a particular funded-trader program. That requires the provider's current written terms and a test of your complete rules.
Make a rule sheet first
Record the provider, program version and date checked. Identify any daily loss limit, total drawdown rule, position restrictions, news restrictions and holding-period rules that apply. Do not assume two programs calculate losses the same way.
Use the official terms to establish whether an account is simulated or live and how fees, resets and payouts work. This article does not compare offers or recommend a provider.
Test the whole workflow
- Use an explicit entry and exit rule, not just attractive signal markers.
- Record open-position risk as well as closed results.
- Track whether a rule breach would occur during a trade.
- Include losing streaks and days when no qualifying setup appears.
A large advertised account size is not the same as money you can withdraw or risk freely. No indicator guarantees qualification or a payout.
Use a consistent comparison method before evaluating any paid program.
