How it works

The indicator identifies bullish and bearish engulfing patterns by analyzing consecutive candle relationships and their relative sizes. It first determines the current market trend using 50-period and 200-period simple moving averages, ensuring signals align with the broader market direction.

Once trend context is established, the script measures the current candle's body size against 1.5x Average True Range (ATR) to filter out weak signals. This ATR-based mechanism ensures only significant candle patterns are considered, differentiating between meaningful momentum shifts and insignificant price movements.

Why it may be useful

Traditional engulfing pattern indicators often generate numerous false signals by detecting any candle that marginally engulfs the previous one. This advanced approach reduces noise by incorporating trend confirmation and volatility-based filtering, helping traders focus on high-probability reversal opportunities.

By integrating multiple confirmation techniques, the indicator provides a more sophisticated and reliable method for identifying potential trend reversals. Traders can benefit from more precise entries and reduced risk of acting on insignificant or misleading price action signals.

When to explore it

The engulfing pattern indicator works best in markets with clear trending characteristics, where price movements show consistent directional momentum. It is particularly effective in identifying potential trend reversals during periods of moderate to high volatility, where significant price action signals are more meaningful.

Traders should apply this indicator across multiple timeframes, from short-term scalping to longer-term swing trading strategies. It is especially useful in liquid markets like forex, stocks, and major cryptocurrency pairs where price action patterns are more reliable and pronounced.
