Engulfing Candles (ATR-Based) with Volume Spike

How it works

The indicator first analyzes candle body sizes relative to the Average True Range (ATR) to identify meaningful engulfing patterns. It requires the current candle to have a body larger than 1.5× ATR and the previous candle to have a smaller body less than 0.5× ATR, ensuring dynamic volatility-adjusted filtering.

Additionally, the script checks volume confirmation by comparing current volume against a 20-period volume moving average. If volume exceeds 1.5× the average, the pattern receives a volume spike confirmation, marked with an asterisk to distinguish high-conviction setups.

Why it may be useful

Traditional engulfing pattern detection often generates numerous false signals by overlooking critical market context. This approach systematically filters out weak setups by incorporating volatility and volume measurements, providing traders with more statistically robust entry opportunities.
