How it works

The Volume Weighted RSI calculates momentum by comparing up-volume and down-volume over a specified period. It classifies each price bar as up or down volume based on closing price movements. The indicator smooths these volumes using a Running Moving Average (RMA).

It then computes a ratio of average up-volume to down-volume, transforming this into an oscillator between 0 and 100. The resulting value reveals the strength of price movements weighted by trading volume

Why it may be useful

The Volume Weighted RSI provides traders with a more nuanced view of market momentum by integrating volume data into traditional momentum analysis. It helps identify true market sentiment by emphasizing price movements backed by significant trading activity.

This approach reduces the likelihood of false signals by confirming price trends with corresponding volume strength. Traders can more accurately assess buying and selling pressure, making more informed decisions about potential trend reversals and market dynamics

When to explore it

The Volume Weighted RSI works best in markets with reliable volume data, such as stocks, cryptocurrencies, and forex. It is particularly effective on intraday and daily charts where volume information is most meaningful.

Traders should use it to confirm trend directions, identify potential reversals, and detect momentum shifts. It is most valuable when combined with other technical indicators and price action analysis to validate trading signals
