How it works

The gap trading strategy identifies significant price gaps by comparing the opening price with the previous high or low. It determines gap significance through price position and volume. Traders can choose between interpreting gaps as exhaustion or breakaway signals.

When 'invert' is false, an up gap triggers a short position, while a down gap triggers a long position. Conversely, when 'invert' is true, positions are reversed. Positions are closed when the gap is filled or based on predefined conditions like new session, new gap, or reverse position

Why it may be useful

This strategy provides traders with a unique approach to market movements by capitalizing on price discontinuities. It offers a pattern-based method less dependent on complex technical indicators, making it more adaptable.

By analyzing gaps, traders can potentially identify market sentiment shifts, trend continuations, or reversals. The strategy's flexibility allows customization through different closing conditions, enabling traders to manage risk and optimize entry and exit points based on market dynamics

When to explore it

The gap trading strategy works best in markets with frequent and significant price gaps, particularly in volatile stocks or during periods of high market uncertainty. It is most effective in stocks with consistent trading volumes and clear price movements.

Traders should apply this strategy in timeframes that capture meaningful gap formations, such as 15-minute or daily charts. It is particularly useful for stocks in tech, growth, or sectors prone to sudden news-driven price changes
