How it works

The indicator calculates each sector's price as a percentage of its position between the 200-period low and high. When a sector's price equals its 200-period minimum, it's valued at 0, and when it equals the maximum, it's valued at 100. This method provides a normalized view of sector performance across different timeframes.

The visual representation uses color coding to quickly communicate sector performance: red indicates values below 33, yellow represents values between 33 and 66, and green shows values above 66. The S&P 500 index is also plotted using the same calculation method, allowing for comprehensive market analysis.

Why it may be useful

This indicator offers traders a unique perspective on market dynamics by revealing the relative strength and positioning of different industry sectors. By transforming sector performance into a standardized percentage scale, it provides a clear and intuitive visualization of market trends and potential shifts in sector leadership.

The color-coded display allows for quick identification of sectors that are underperforming, neutral, or outperforming relative to their historical range. This can help traders and investors understand underlying market conditions, potential rotations between sectors, and broader market sentiment.

When to explore it

The indicator is most valuable for swing traders and investors seeking to understand broader market trends and sector rotation. It's particularly useful during periods of market transition, helping identify which sectors are gaining or losing momentum relative to their historical performance.

Traders should use this indicator in conjunction with other market analysis tools, recognizing that it provides a snapshot of sector performance rather than definitive trading signals. It can be especially helpful for portfolio allocation, sector rotation strategies, and understanding the overall health and direction of the market.
